In this episode, I walk with Miguel Lara and Mickey Mahaffey in Boston, Massachusetts. Miguel Lara is a Tarahumaran ultramarathon champion. If you've read Born to Run, then you'll remember that the Tarahumara are a tribe that lives in the Copper Canyons of Mexico. They are some of the best ultramarathoners in the world– because walking and running long distances (barefoot) is just a way of life for them. And Miguel is one of the best of the best.
Mickey Mahaffey is an American who has been living with the Tarahumara for 20 years. His story of how he came to become one of the only white people accepted by the Tarahumara is equally as amazing.
I met Miguel and Mickey when I was in Boston for the marathon weekend. And when I started to hear their stories, I asked if I could record them for the podcast. Big thanks to them for taking the time to share their stories and wisdom with us. This is a very special interview and I look forward to visiting them in Mexico someday soon! #EveryMileMatters
